Psychic Warfare Subcommittee
The Comity for State Security’s Psychic Warfare Subcommittee is Stalin’s answer to the OIU, the AOS, & whatever slinking organization the British have fielded. However, Stalin doesn’t buy into this demon summoning nonsense. Religion is the opiate of the masses, and “demons” are just an advent of the bourgeoisie meant to keep the masses of the proletariat inline. He also doesn’t believe in all this magic hocus-pocus or these so called other realms. What he and his minions in the KGB do accept is the power of the mind, in the form of psionics, or mind over matter. The members of the KGB’s Psychic Warfare Subcommittee under Stalin believe that this so-called “magic” is really just the expression of psychic phenomena like telekinesis, pyrokinesis, etc… labeled as “magic” by the western capitalist counterrevolutionaries in order to keep their despised socialist “allies” from figuring out what is really going on and turning it to their advantage. What the PWS believes the Nazis are really trying to do is create a spacebridge through the Astral Plane in order to bring across an army of psychic aliens to aid them in their fascist quest for global domination. Stalin and the PWS fear what these aliens will really do is attempt to conquer earth for themselves. Ironically, the PWS’s view of what the Nazis are up to is actually fairly close to accurate.
Stalin is also correct in thinking that the rest of The Allies are holding out on him. Roosevelt, Churchill, and The Baroness fear, correctly, that if Stalin was brought in on the truth that he would try to develop his own arcane supper weapon and become even more dangerous than the Nazis. Instead, Roosevelt and Churchill have acknowledged the OIU, but insist that the occult is a fantasy of Hitler. They admit to keeping an eye on these SS units on general principle, claiming that if they can thwart them then it might goad Hitler into wasting even more manpower on this wild goose chase. Stalin nods his head and pretends to agree, but doesn’t buy it for a seconded. He knows their efforts are serious. They know he knows, and that he has the PWS on the hunt as well. He knows that they know he knows that they know, but everybody pretends that nobody knows, but in fact, everybody knows. (Does your head hurt yet?)
Stalin has put KGB Colonel Irina Spalko in charge of the PWS. She is a firm believer in both world socialism and the psychic power no magic thesis. She is also personally devoted to Stalin, and she answers to no one but him (and KGB chief Lavrentiy Pavlovich Beria, everyone but Stalin answers to Beria). Her orders are to stop the OIU from successfully completing their spacebridge, and to forestall the alien invasion. To that end, they are to do whatever is necessary, even the rare bit of cooperation with the occasional imperialist. However, any information they can gather on the development and use of psychic power is also a primary goal, whether they have to steal it from the Nazis or other…“involved parties” doesn’t really matter. And while their priority is to prevent the alien army from invading, capturing a scout or two for interrogation and dissection would be a nice bonus. Their orders are to shoot the Germans first, but not necessarily only.
